Garrett & Sarah: A Virginia Beach Surprise Proposal at Ocean View Fishing Pier | Proposal Photographer
June has hit and everyone’s summer vibes are itching for the beach to enjoy this nice weather! This past weekend, I snuck some sneak peeks on insta because a. I was finally traveling again and my heart was so happy and b. what was happening needed to be documented in more than one way!
So I'm finally here to share the news that….. SHE SAID YES!
Being a proposal photographer, I get to experience some pretty incredible moments. Garrett & I had been talking for months on his surprise proposal but sadly, coronavirus pushed plans back. At first, we had it all planned out for him to propose on a waterfall hike here in the Appalachian Mountains but because stores closed, he couldn't get his hands on Sarah's ring. Thankfully, after waiting for months, he got her ring and just couldn’t hold onto it for long. So we decided to create a back up plan and get Sarah’s friend in on the fun. Again, being a proposal photographer is an incredible experience BUT, it takes a lot of planning to capture it without spoiling anything. So…. we all scheduled a Zoom call to work out the kinks and make their sunset proposal one to remember! With Garrett & Sarah’s friend Roni traveling from Charlotte and myself traveling from Roanoke, the plan was for Roni to spend the weekend with Sarah in Virginia Beach (where Sarah currently lives for her job) while Garrett secretly hid in a hotel unbeknownst until game time!
Having a spot set up beside Ocean View Fishing Pier, Garrett set up a copper pipe arch before hiding patiently in the dunes while we distracted Sarah and you guys… her reaction was PRICELESS! Virginia Beach is stunning at sunset but, it was so intimate and definitely a surprise! She thought some random man was trying to steal her and when she saw our reactions, she thought we were totally okay with it. Turns out, it was the love of her life, down on one knee... I’m so incredibly blessed Garrett chose me to be their proposal photographer and I can honestly say, I’ll never forget it! Congratulations you two!

I mean seriously, every proposal is different but goodness Sarah’s reaction was definitely one I’ll never forget! While surrounded by the prettiest sunset, walking carelessly on the beach to BAM, you’re engaged! She was so shocked not only to see Garrett but realize that after waiting five and a half years, they are no longer boyfriend and girlfriend but fiancés!

One of my favorite things to do as a proposal photographer is squeeze in some extra time with the newly engaged couple. Not only to show off that ring, but to catch all those raw feelings that surface in the moments that follow the excitement! That cloud nine feeling that seems to glow as bright as the sunset lit sky. Those proposal photos are definitely what are craved the most but the moments after can be just as sweet! And let’s not forget that they chose one of the prettiest places to celebrate! Alongside the Ocean View Fishing Pier in Virginia Beach, they finished with champagne and then walked down the beach with the view of the pier lights bouncing on the waves as they walked together hand in hand. Its moments like those, the small details, that resinate with us for generations.
