When it comes to hiking proposals, Virginia is one of the best places on the East Coast to make this happen! With the rolling Blue Ridge Mountains in every direction, it’s definitely worth the hike to get this view of Sharp Top, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway at the Peaks of Otter!

When searching for an adventure photographer, Alex found me online from another proposal blog I had posted and we instantly clicked! He said he & his girlfriend Breanna were both ready to take their relationship to the next level and what better place than in the Blue Ridge Mountains?! They both loved nature, both became architects, Virginia Tech grads and shared a zeal for adventure.

The next thing I knew, we were emailing back and forth and decided to meet in person to go over the plans and ultimately get to know more about each other. Y’all, when I say we planned, we planned! Everything from the way Breanna would face to the ring box he would carry her ring in, we both wanted this to be the best proposal ever for her! But before we get too far into things, let’s not skip over her engagement ring. Yep, that stunning individualistic engagement ring is one of many creative twists this couple provides! If you can’t guess, Breanna’s favorite color is yellow so instead of getting a diamond, Alex thought Breanna would cherish this yellow stone and he was right!

But wait, it gets better! The last time Alex & Breanna hiked Sharp Top, Breanna made the comment she loved the view and it would be a great place to take their “save the date” pictures when the time was right. INSERT THE BEST FIANCÉ EVER… Alex not only heard her but he took action. I captured their proposal and all the raw natural moments that provided but, Alex secretly packed her favorite dress, a brush, an outfit for him to change into and snacks for a mini session so they could take prettier pictures for a “save the date”!

The connection these two share is magnetic and it’s undeniably one of the best I’ve ever witnessed as an adventure photographer. From the way Alex helped her up and down rocks to the way Breanna tipped on her toes so gently to give him nose nuzzle. So gentle, so calm and so patient with each other. After five years of dating, these two were getting married and we wanted to shout it from the mountaintops! After taking lots of pictures at the summit of Sharp Top, we made our way down the mountain to the iconic Peaks of Otter lake before making the scenic drive home on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
